Jamaica saw 4.7 million US passengers in the year to June 2025, split between two very different airports. Kingston (KIN) is the capital's airport and the one the diaspora uses; Montego Bay (MBJ) is the resort gateway for the north coast. From Miami the flight is under two hours; from New York about four.

Entry requirements

US citizens need a passport; no visa for stays under 90 days. Complete the C5 customs and immigration form online before arrival. Haitian passport holders need a Jamaican visa in advance.

Airports

Norman Manley (KIN) is 25 to 40 minutes from New Kingston on the Palisadoes road. Sangster (MBJ) is minutes from the Montego Bay hotel strip and 90 minutes from Negril or Ocho Rios. Both include the departure tax in the ticket.

Best time to fly

Christmas, spring break and July to August are peak. Late April to June and September to early December are cheapest; hurricane risk peaks in September and October.

Baggage realities

Caribbean Airlines Classic and American Main Cabin include one 50 lb bag; JetBlue Blue Basic does not. Barrels are common and are accepted as checked pieces within the 50 lb and 62 in limits.
