Accra has become one of the most welcoming long-haul destinations for the wider African diaspora, and for Haitian travelers in particular: Ghana grants visa-free entry to Haitian passport holders for up to 90 days. Delta flies nonstop from JFK in about ten and a half hours; Air France, Royal Air Maroc and Ethiopian offer one-stop options.

Entry requirements

US passport holders need a visa or e-visa obtained in advance from the Ghana embassy or the online portal. Haitian passport holders enter visa-free for 90 days. A yellow fever certificate is mandatory and checked before immigration.

December is peak for the diaspora and for the Detty December festival season; book three to five months ahead. February to May and September to November are cheapest. The rainy season is May to July and September to October.

Money, SIM cards and getting around
