The Cap-Haïtien to Fort Lauderdale flight lands you in Broward County, which is where most Haitian families in Florida actually live, so it saves the drive up I-95 from Miami. Sunrise Airways operates three days a week; check the day pattern for your dates before you lock in a ride from Milot or Limbé. Fort Lauderdale's international arrivals in Terminal 4 are usually quick, and the airport has a Brightline station and Tri-Rail shuttle for onward travel to Palm Beach or Miami. Because the route is three times weekly, a missed flight can mean a two day wait, so plan the ground transfer to the airport with a buffer.

When to book

Fares to Haiti peak from December 15 to January 8 and again in July and August, when the diaspora travels for the holidays and summer. Late January through April is the quietest and cheapest window. Book 6 to 10 weeks ahead for holiday travel; two to four weeks is usually enough in spring. Hurricane season runs June through November and can move flights at short notice.

About the airports

CAP

Cap-Haïtien International Airport

Cap-Haïtien, HT · America/Port-au-Prince

Cap-Haïtien International Airport (CAP), also called Hugo Chávez International, is Haiti's second airport and, since November 2024, the only one US airlines are allowed to use. It sits on the coastal plain just south of the city, a few minutes from the historic center and about 20 km from the Citadelle Laferrière and Sans-Souci Palace at Milot. The airport was expanded in 2013 to take Airbus A320 and Boeing 737 aircraft on international flights, and it now carries the bulk of Haiti's traffic with the United States: Sunrise Airways from Miami, Fort Lauderdale, Boston and Newark, and American Airlines daily from Miami starting November 1, 2026.

FLL

Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport

Fort Lauderdale, US · America/New_York

Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International is the friendlier alternative to Miami and the home airport for Broward County, which has the largest Haitian population of any US county. Sunrise Airways started Fort Lauderdale to Cap-Haïtien on December 15, 2025 with three weekly flights, and JetBlue and Spirit both base large Caribbean operations here.

Arriving at Fort Lauderdale

International arrivals clear immigration in Terminal 4 (or Terminal 3 for JetBlue), usually in under 30 minutes outside the evening peak. Mobile Passport Control works here.

A free shuttle connects the terminals to the Brightline station and Tri-Rail; Brightline reaches Miami in 30 minutes and West Palm Beach in 40. Rideshare pickup is on the lower level at each terminal. Parking in the Hibiscus and Palm garages is cheaper than Miami's.
