Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport

Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International is the friendlier alternative to Miami and the home airport for Broward County, which has the largest Haitian population of any US county. Sunrise Airways started Fort Lauderdale to Cap-Haïtien on December 15, 2025 with three weekly flights, and JetBlue and Spirit both base large Caribbean operations here.

Terminal and check-in

Four terminals in a row, all walkable. International departures, including Sunrise, use Terminal 4; JetBlue is in Terminal 3 next door. Security lines are shorter than Miami's most of the day. Food options are decent in Terminals 3 and 4; there is little airside in Terminal 4's international gates, so eat before security.

Arrival process

International arrivals clear immigration in Terminal 4 (or Terminal 3 for JetBlue), usually in under 30 minutes outside the evening peak. Mobile Passport Control works here.

Getting to and from the airport

A free shuttle connects the terminals to the Brightline station and Tri-Rail; Brightline reaches Miami in 30 minutes and West Palm Beach in 40. Rideshare pickup is on the lower level at each terminal. Parking in the Hibiscus and Palm garages is cheaper than Miami's.

Tips

Sunrise's three weekly flights fill up around holidays; book the return at the same time as the outbound. Spirit passengers should buy bags online before arriving; counter prices are the highest.
