American uses the North Terminal (Concourse D), a long building where gates D1 to D60 can be a 20 minute walk apart; use the Skytrain inside the concourse. Sunrise Airways departs from the Central or South Terminal depending on the season; check your e-ticket. Security at the North Terminal is slowest between 6 am and 9 am. There is a Haitian food counter in the Central Terminal food court and a Cuban coffee window in every concourse.

International arrivals clear immigration in the North or South Terminal. Miami is one of the slowest US airports for visitor passports in the afternoon, when the Caribbean and South American banks land together; Mobile Passport Control (free app) and Global Entry cut the wait to minutes for eligible travelers. Connecting passengers collect bags after customs and re-check them at the transfer desk before returning through TSA.

The MIA Mover connects the terminals to the Rental Car Center and Miami Central Station, where Metrorail (Orange Line) runs downtown in 15 minutes and Tri-Rail heads north to Fort Lauderdale and West Palm Beach. Rideshare pickup is on the departures level; a car to Little Haiti or North Miami is 20 to 30 minutes.

For a Cap-Haïtien departure, be at the counter three hours ahead; Sunrise closes check-in strictly. Parking at the Dolphin and Flamingo garages is expensive for a week; the Economy lot with shuttle is half the price. If you connect from another US city, give yourself 90 minutes minimum inside the North Terminal.
