Terminal and check-in
Be at the airport four hours before a US flight. Screening is layered: document checks at the entrance, check-in, immigration, security, and a secondary bag search at the gate for US flights. Only ticketed passengers can enter the terminal.
Arrival process
Have your visa approval letter, yellow fever card and a printed hotel or host address ready. Arrival processing takes 45 to 90 minutes. Do not change money with touts; use the bank counters or an ATM inside.
Getting to and from the airport
Pre-book an airport pickup through your host, hotel or a known car service; walk-up taxis are not recommended late at night. The Lagos rail airport link is under development.
Tips
December seats sell out early; book three to five months ahead. Delta and United include two bags on standard economy, which is why they win for families over one-stop options with one bag.
